Among all flooring systems that are the easiest to install via DIY, carpet tiles are near the top of the tier. The easy transferability of individual tiles, as well as its adaptability to just about any type of sub floor, makes carpet tiles a huge favorite among DIY renovators. The ease with which carpet tiles can be installed almost makes hired work for its installment a near-shame.

Like all DIY projects, a good step-by-step instructions set can spell the difference between a messy disaster and a perfect new set of floors. Keeping these following simple steps in mind will hopefully help you achieve the results you are hoping for. When in doubt, however, don’t hesitate to call a flooring expert to help you with any specific problems you might encounter (you can call 0208 597 933 for advice from our flooring experts at Every Flooring Direct).

Step No. 1: Clear out your area

Remove any furniture and debris that may be lying around the area you wish to cover with carpet tiles. You can choose to work around huge furniture, especially if the likelihood of these being moved around is pretty slim.

Step No. 2: Prepare your floor

Make sure that your sub floor is smooth and free from any debris. Sweep and vacuum every corner of your sub floor. Remove any old adhesives, nails, tacks, and other similar items that are attached to your sub floor. You can also choose to mop and air-dry your floor to ensure that you have a perfectly clean floor prior to installation.

Step No. 3: Start from the center

Find the center of your room. You can do this in two ways: (1) divide your room in half both length-wise and width-wise, and see where the halfway lines intersect, or (2) lay two pieces of string diagonally across the room, and mark the intersection. This middle point is important, as you will be laying your tiles around it.

Step No. 4: Lay your tiles

Lay your first tile by placing it smack on top of the very middle of your room. Make sure that its edges are parallel to the walls of your room. Fix your first tile using carpet tape or glue. Work around this center tile by laying your other tiles in a concentric manner.

Step No. 5: Stick as you go

Use carpet adhesive or glue to keep your tiles in place.

    Step No. 6: Trim accordingly

Upon reaching the corners of your room, trim your tiles accordingly. Take some time trimming your tiles, as over-trimming can lead to a lot of wasted tiles.

Step No. 7: Admire your work

Don’t let the fact that installing carpet tiles by yourself is pretty easy stop you from admiring your work. With a little effort, you have been able to transform a room into something with a more regal air, and for that, you deserve a pat on the back.

    1. I really liked the steps to put the tiles but one thing that I have not seen before is that starting from the center as generally I have seen the people doing or starting it from the one side to another.

    2. Good looking section of content and this is a great section of home improvement in this area. This is really helpful step for install carpet tiles and keep sharing your excellent work.

    3. You can start from center as well if the room is in proper dimension. Mean in square or rectangle.

Sometime, you might have to alter the size of the tiles to fit near the walls. So starting from center will make sure that it is of same size at the end near the walls.
